THE PROCESS
Golf has always been in my life, but I fell in love with it in mid-2024 and went all-in. I haven't looked back. I am currently a +1.2 handicap. I've had people tell me I have a lot of natural talent, but natural talent will only get one so far. I have worked hard to build a solid work ethic, stay motivated, stay focused, stay positive, and always have a purpose or plan for what I'm trying to do at the course or practice facility.
As far as my mental game goes, I am working hard on not getting too up or too down on the golf course. I'm learning to stay in the moment. If I'm trying to model my mental game after someone, it'd probably be Scottie Scheffler. It seems like he has a great outlook on the game and tries not to let anything bother him on the course. What also stands out to me about him is his bounce-back stat - when he makes a bogey or other mistake, he almost always rebounds with a birdie. That says a lot about him.
My coaches and I have tried to build a solid swing, based on fundamentals, big muscles, and optimum angles and paths. We have worked hard to prevent a move that can turn into a coming over the top move. I am also working hard to formulate the best fitness, diet, and rest program for me.
I have mentioned "the process." To me, the process is a number of critical activities I do that will without a doubt set me up for success in golf. These are the things ingrained in my process:
1. Take care of my body and mind and prepare it for top performance.
2. Show up with a good attitude and a plan to get better.
3. Be coachable and work hard.
4. Learn from failures and successes.
5. Recognize small victories and understand that progress takes many forms.
6. Concentrate on the things I can control.
7. Always be cognizant of and fall back on the fundamentals.
8. Keep swing thoughts simple. Keep swing thoughts to a minimum on the course.
9. Adhere to a strong pre-shot routine with breathing, visualization, and positive thoughts - no second-guessing.
10. Accept the bad breaks. Accept there will be mistakes.
11. Embrace pressure as a sign I am doing things right.
12. Treat adversity as an opportunity to shine.
13. Reflect on the good and bad of the day. Learn.
14. Always show good sportsmanship.
Stats
2025 was my first serious year in golf and my first year competing. I won one tournament and my handicap dropped from well in the double digits to a +2. I didn't keep great stats until the second half of last year. I'm going to do a lot better with stats in 2026. I'm also going to have a lot of scores to report. Counting HS golf, I will play in over 30 tournaments so 2026 is going to be a huge year.
